　ロバート・スミスは、80年代初頭の血まみれで陰鬱な曲をスタジアム・ロックへと変貌させた（「Love Song」 「Pictures of You」）。しかし彼らの心は、高くそびえたつ、黒に近いグレーのバラードに横たわっている。2枚の特別盤（うち1枚はライヴのデモ）には、ほとんど価値はないだろう。とはいえ、このアルバムが醸し出す自虐とポップさの中間のようなテンションは決して無視できない。
